This 3D CGI marine animation of an Akula Class Russian Submarine demonstrates briefly the ocean cross-section technique. How do we achieve this? First of all, we create a detailed and realistic undulating ocean surface. This is complemented by the depths of the ocean beneath. Also, columns of light from the surface penetrate into its depths. The sea floor and rock formations come into focus as the camera moves forward.
A shoal of fish dart beneath the Submarine as it approaches. This is just one of a selection of possible scene actors whether it’s fish, a shipwreck or sea kelp moving with the tide. Subsequently, all of these elements increase the realism of the animation. Studio Mitchell’s attention to detail is apparent in their 3D CGI marine animation.
