Studio Mitchell creates 3D animation for products, processes, environments and ideas that are difficult to communicate through conventional filming alone.

3D animation gives complete control over camera movement, lighting, materials and timing, making it possible to reveal how something works, demonstrate movement, show internal components or create scenes that would be difficult, expensive or impractical to film.

Animation Built Around the Subject

The visual approach depends on what the project needs to communicate.

Some projects require photorealistic CGI. Others benefit from a cleaner, more technical treatment. Camera movement, cutaways, exploded views, transitions and controlled lighting can all be used to make complex subjects easier to follow without overwhelming the viewer.

This can include:

  • product animation
  • mechanical and engineering sequences
  • technical demonstrations
  • environments and architectural spaces
  • cutaways and exploded views
  • process animation
  • commercial and campaign CGI
  • animation developed from CAD or existing 3D data
From Existing Data or From Scratch

Where suitable CAD or 3D models already exist, they can often provide the starting point for production.

Models may need cleaning, rebuilding or optimisation before they are ready for animation and rendering. Materials, lighting and camera work are then developed around the final use of the film.

Where source data is unavailable, assets can also be modelled specifically for the project.

Showing What Cameras Cannot

One of the main advantages of 3D animation is the ability to move beyond the limits of live-action filming.

A camera can pass through a product, reveal hidden mechanisms, isolate individual components or show a process developing over time. Scale, timing and viewpoint can all be controlled precisely, allowing the animation to concentrate attention on the parts of the story that matter.

Example: Brotherwood

For Brotherwood, 3D animation was used to show how a wheelchair-accessible vehicle is engineered and adapted.

The sequence reveals the structural changes, access system and internal conversion in a way that would be difficult to capture through live action alone.

It is a strong example of 3D animation being used not just to present a finished product, but to explain the engineering behind it.

Discuss a 3D Animation Project

If you have a product, process or idea that would benefit from being shown in 3D, Studio Mitchell can help develop the right visual approach and take the project through to finished animation.
